Before you begin
Have the new binary built. Know the wire port of the running server; it is found by its port, never by name.
Complete the task
-
Check the live configuration with the new binary. A refusal exits non-zero and nothing is touched.
-
Stop the running server by its port and start the new one in the background.
liminal check --config liminal.toml && \ kill -TERM "$(lsof -t -i tcp:7600 -sTCP:LISTEN)" && \ nohup liminal --config liminal.toml >> serve.log 2>&1 & -
Read the health page: 200, and each link open.
-
Restart once more and read the log. The second boot places no tap subject and migrates no journal; it reads the journal beside the store.
If something goes wrong
A store locked by another live writer means the old server has not released it: wait for the stop, never remove the lock file by hand. A second boot that refuses the services registry names the file that is not a service record; nothing but service records belongs in that directory.
