# Use the assistant

Talk to your store's assistant from Studio, decide what it asks to change, and come back to earlier conversations.

Each person has one assistant per store. It runs as a seat that Lys starts under your name, and Studio talks to it through the door. Everything it says is kept in the store, so a reload loses nothing. A change it wants to make waits until you approve it, and Lys keeps the decision.

## Open it

Press ⌘I (Ctrl I on Windows and Linux) on any screen. The panel opens beside the screen with the field ready to type in. The rail's Assistant button, `g a`, and the command palette (⌘K, then "Ask the assistant") open and close it too. Esc closes it from anywhere inside the panel, unless a turn is running: then Esc stops the turn.

Drag the panel's edge, or use the arrow keys on it, to make it between 320 and 900 pixels wide. Studio keeps the width in this browser. Float lifts the panel into its own window, and Dock puts it back.

The panel opens its connection to the door only while it is open. A closed panel holds nothing open and takes no keys.

## Start your assistant

The head says where your seat stands: running (with the harness and its version), starting, resuming on your next message, ended (with its exit code), or not started.

A seat that is not started shows **Start the assistant**. Starting is done in Lys, under your name: the door answers `assistant_start_in_lys` with a link, and the notice shows **Start it in Lys**. You can write before the seat is running. Your words are kept for this store in this browser and are sent once it is.

## Ask

Type and press Enter. Shift Enter starts a new line. Above the field, a chip says where you are looking: store, branch, version and screen. It goes with your message so the assistant knows what you mean by "this". Press × on the chip to send a message without it.

While a turn is running, the button says **Queue**. The seat holds your words until the turn ends, and the line says **Queued** only when the seat says it is. Cancel or Esc stops the running turn.

Type `/` at the start of the field for the harness's own commands. Up and Down move through them, Tab takes one, and Enter on a name written out in full runs it. A `/name` the harness does not offer is said under the field and goes as ordinary words.

A line the door could not carry says **Not sent** with the reason, and **Send again** sends it once more.

## Read the answer

Answers are Markdown with tables and lists. HTML in an answer is not drawn. A link shows the address it goes to and opens outside Studio. JSON and jq blocks are drawn in Studio's own editor.

Each tool call is one row: its status (waiting, working, done, failed, or stopped before it finished), with what it was given and what it answered folded underneath. A plan is a checklist. Thinking is folded away until you open it. Every turn ends with a sentence saying why: finished, cancelled, or stopped at a limit.

Only the last 200 turns are drawn. The earlier ones are counted, and one press shows them. The view follows new words only while you are at the bottom, and **Jump to the latest** takes you back there.

## Decide what it asks to change

When the assistant wants to change something, the ask appears in the conversation as a card in the harness's own words, and Lys holds it as a draft. The head counts the asks waiting for you.

Approve or Refuse asks once more, repeating the words exactly, before anything is sent. Your decision goes through the door to Lys with your own session. The seat hears it only after Lys accepts it. Each card links to its draft in Lys, where the receipt is kept, and once decided it says who decided.

An ask Lys could not hold, or one cancelled before Lys held it, is said as its own row. It was not carried out.

## Settings, New and History

The harness's settings appear under the head: the model first, then the mode and how hard it thinks, then anything else it offers. A choice shows as chosen only when the harness says so. A refused choice is said in the harness's words. Settings change only between turns.

**New** starts a new conversation. **History** lists your earlier conversations with this store's assistant, with the harness, the number of turns and when each was last used. Choosing one asks the seat to open it. The panel stays on the current conversation until the seat says the other is open. If the harness cannot resume it, the panel says so and keeps the conversation you had.

## After a reload or a lost connection

The panel reads the conversation back from the store's own record, then follows it live. Words said again from the record are marked **From the saved conversation**. The head says **Reconnecting…** while the door is being reached again.

If your sign-in runs out, the panel says so and offers **Sign in again**. The assistant keeps running, and nothing in the conversation is lost.

## What it needs today

The seat is started by Lys. Starting it from Lys depends on Lys's seat program launch and personal app start, which are not yet in the installed Lys. Until they are, the panel shows the seat as not started and links to Lys.
