# Command line

Find every command in the installed Aion 0.31.0 command tree.

The Aion command authors workflows, runs the server and operates executions. The references below cover the 55 help surfaces on main. The [public release](/aion/reference/sources/) has an earlier command tree.

## Choose a command family

[Server and storage](/aion/reference/cli-server/)

Launch, status, stop, restart, update and offline store maintenance.
[Authoring and deployment](/aion/reference/cli-authoring/)

New, generate, check, package, deploy, run and every AWL verb.
[Workers](/aion/reference/cli-workers/)

Serve shell, AWL and agent workers; inspect and control the managed fleet.
[Runs and routing](/aion/reference/cli-runs/)

Start, signal, query, inspect and control executions and package routes.

## Global options

Operate Aion workflows over gRPC and run the Aion workflow server. Bare `aion` starts the server in the background and opens the ops console.

```text
aion [OPTIONS] [COMMAND]
```

- `--endpoint <ENDPOINT>`: gRPC address for client operations. A missing scheme means http://. Set server listeners through server configuration or --grpc-address.
- `--namespace <NAMESPACE>`: Workflow namespace used for operations [default: default]
- `--subject <SUBJECT>`: Caller subject metadata sent to the server [default: cli-user]
- `--token <TOKEN>`: Bearer token for authenticated servers. Overrides the `AION_TOKEN` environment variable; when both are absent the development header paths apply
- `--pretty`: Print formatted, human-readable JSON
- `--foreground`: Bare `aion` only: run the launched server in this terminal instead of the background
- `--no-open`: Bare `aion` only: do not open the ops console in a browser
- `-h, --help`: Print help (see a summary with '-h')
- `-V, --version`: Print version

The endpoint is a gRPC dial address. When omitted by a client operation it resolves to the local endpoint. A server bind address comes from server configuration or its listener flags.

The bare launcher alone accepts foreground and no-open options. Server control verbs act on the local Aion home, not an arbitrary remote endpoint.

For interactive help, append the help flag to a command, or pass the command path to the generated help subcommand.

## Exit codes

- `0`: The command completed successfully. For server status, the recorded process identity is verified and serving; also read readiness.
- `1`: A client/local operation failed. For update, an attempted update did not finish. For server status, the recorded server has stopped or failed its serving check.
- `2`: Clap argument error or server configuration/control refusal. Server status uses 2 when it could not complete its check.
- `130`: Forced server shutdown after a second termination signal.

Use your installed command’s help to check availability before applying a main-only option.
